trying to get gas & electricity supplier sorted - need help...

my partner and i moved into a new build property in january 07 and we have been trying to get a supplier to take on our gas & electricity since then, well just before we moved in actually. EDF didn't seem to want our custom to start off with and we have now been trying for the last 3/4 months to have british gas supply our g&e. unfortunately, although i have provided them with all the information they required and have even received letters from them saying our g&e will be supplied from a certain date and we have an account number for the gas, we are still get estimated bills through that are nothing like what we've used. i have told them on several occasions what our current g&e readings are but they just don't seem to be taking any notice and are constantly sending us bills for over £300 and £400!! the g&e is the last thing we have got to get sorted and it seems as though it is going to get to the point where, once it is finally sorted, we are going to have to pay out a huge amount just because it has taken them so long to get things sorted.

has anyone any suggestions as to what we can do - i.e. is there a company out there that is better than british gas as we seem to have no end of trouble from them at the moment?

Any company has to be better than British Gas. They are the worst. It took me 15 months to get a bill. However, you do know how much gas and electricity you are using and I'm sure you can multiply the usage by the unit rate and establish how much you have spent. I know its annoying. I am now getting my gas from Ebico and electricity from Scottish Power. Both are fine and now how to produce a bill. However, use this web site to see what is cheaper for your actual usage.  I am not an expert.Kevin

    Hi there

YES there is most definately a company out there that is better than British Gas. I know as I am a customer myself and enjoying great savings.. They are a major British company whose shares are listed on the London Stock Exchange but they do not advertise. Instead they rely on customers recommendations to friends and family to build the business. Thus they keep the costs down and can pass the savings onto you. Sounds too good to be true doesn't it! .. but it isn't. This is 100% genuine. They also have an award winning customer service centre based in the uk. Too much to go into here but please drop me an e-mail XXXXX Moderator edit -- email address in profiles only, please read the rules. Thank you. and I'd be happy to give you more details and answer any questions. I am sure I can help you out.

    Hi,

if uou are still receiving estimated bills, can MPAS and National Grid You can get tel no's from local 'phone book or directory enquiries) and confirm your:

Ele - Meter Point Administration no and Meter Serial No

Gas - Meter Point Reference no and Meter Serial No

It sounds like the meters may be mixed up with neighbours or national grid/ MPAS have incorrect details from builders. If this is the case you will need to provide BG with correct serial no and meter reads for your property. They will probably also ask for your Plot no.

If the property has meters inside it's probably just details incorrect from builder.

If the meters are outside or in a communal area, it may be worthwhile doing a 'Test and Burn'. Either turn everything off and see which meter stops or turn everything onb and see which meter turns faster.

    Hope this is some help.

If you're still looking for suppliers, may I recommend Atlantic Electric and Gas. Low prices, no nonsense, 13th month direct debit rebate (1 month free). I switched to them from Powergen over a year ago and have not switched again since! The customer service is excellent.

Its a great deal at the moment , as part of the Scottish & Southern group they gave a price promise last year whichabout to expire unless you have iside information on the unreleased new prices I dont think you can comment on the value of staying with them for the next 13 months ( they could be 30% more expensive than everyone else who knows ) ?

The markets at the moment are terrible with alot of supppliers tying people into contracts etc. Also alot of companies receive a commision to sign customers up

I hope that the Money Supermarket is a great way to squashbills

Re: trying to get gas & electricity supplier sorted - need help...

Mark: I am not tied in with a contract with AEG - that's the best bit! If you stick with them for 12 months, they give you a free discount, but you are of course free to leave anytime you like. My direct debits are signicantly lower than what I paid with Powergen - my gas and electric are a third of what they used to be.

My account with AEG was in credit by 50 pounds for gas and 40-ish for electric. I got on the phone to them, got through within a minute, and arranged for a refund. It was in my bank account by 5 days. That's what I call customer service. Now if you compare that with my experiences with Tiscali.....
