    Used car discounts

I have just moved to the UK and have just sold my car back home. I am looking for a car in the £13,000 to £18,000 bracket, a used VW Golf or something similar. How much of a discount could I expect from the dealers on the list price as I have no trade in and am ready to buy with cash?

Preferable buy from a car supermarket on-line not a dealer and shop around.  If you choose a dealer - ask for their best price on the car your interested in and then start negotiating HARD. VW are not normally the best discounters.

The only way to know for sure whether you are getting a good deal or not is to do extensive research. Shop around, shop around again, then again. If you register interest in a dealer and a specific type of car then eventually (if he does his job right) he should end up chasing you, desperate for your business.

Don't forget to compare apples with apples or your shopping around will all be in vain.

Good luck playing hard to get with all those used car dealers....

Check values in the private sales market too, see if you can get yourself a cheaper car this way...
