No payment card recieved, now SUPER bill. How do I calculate?

Hi, just wondering if anybody can help?

I was with British Gas at my previous address. I moved in in the October where there was already on a monthly meter.  I called B.G to send me a payment card in my name. I never recieved the card. So called back again, and again, and again, each time somebody telling me 'oh sorry, will send u out another'. Yeh right!? Well in Jan, I recieved a bill for $38, so called again for the payment card. They informed me that I couldn't arrange payments untill the last bill was paid off, but then once it was, they would send me out a card and I would pay $31 a mth. So, I wrote out a cheque. And STILL didn't recieve the card. After that, I think I just gave up hope. Anyway, blah blah blah, time went on. Called a few more times but no luck.

I moved out in Feb (12mths after I'd made the payment), called for the last bill. It was $500!!! I sent a letter, stating that I couldn't pay the full amount but could offer $35 a mth or something. Never heard anything back. Untill last week, when got a red letter for $1000! My partner the looked at all previous bills and pointed out to me that if my 1st 3mth bill was only $38 then how could the next 12mths be $500, even if I'd used twice as much it wouldn't be that.

I am intending to write and dispute this payment, but am wondering if there's anyway I can work out there rates beforehand. I have my bank statement of that 1st payment going out, proof of the date I moved in and out of property, along with meter readings of both. What is the best way of doing this?

Sorry I'm blabbing on a bit, just not very good at explaining these things. x

Hi --- You seem to have been struggling a long time over this, contact Energywatch, below, they can sort all that out for you, working out rates and taking up your case with BG.

P.S. I take it your figures were meant to be in £ pounds ?

Yeh was supposed to be pounds, my button just isn't working! Ha. Thanks for the advice though. Will give them a bell.
