No Loulee - we don't have lots of time on our hands. We're just sick of being taken for mugs and of having to work our knuckles to the bone just to pay our gas bills. I have lots of hobbies thank you but I also hate being ripped off - hence the time put into this thread and the research behind it!!!

Do you happen to work for Flogas by any chance??? Or do YOU have so much time on YOUR hands that you are able to post comments on threads that you have no interest in??? (and now I'm smiling :o))

BigScreen Steve - go for it my man!!! You have the backing of me and my 10 neighbours who are all in the Flogas straightjacket ..... well for the time being at least!!! Take a look at the .pdfs that Conmankiller lists higher up in this thread.

    Kind regards

Re: Flogas - Can they charge what they want?

I have been watching this post with interest for a few weeks now. I am a Flogas customer and have been for a few years. Like most of you here I have had many notifications about price increases over the years. I have yet to receive one stating that the price will be coming down.

One thing I have noted and I have being trying to obtain is a comparison chart of the unit price of LPG.

To get the ball rolling my Current Flogas unit charge is 39.35pence (plus VAT) taken from a bill that has just arrived 1/2/08

What do you pay per unit ??

Re: Flogas - Can they charge what they want?

I have just caught up with recent posts. BigScreen Steve can I refer you to my post of last August.

I can tell you that I have been in contact with the Competition Commissioner recently because they have still not published their Final Report on bulk LPG. However, do not hold your breath as the Draft Report does not refer to the isue of transparency of pricing; just the arrangements for transferring ownership of tanks. I think all contributors to this thread should be in touch with their MP when the Final Report is published.

I keep a regular check on the CC website and will post a contribution as soon as I am aware tha the report has been published. We should ensure that the issue also appears in the press at the same time. Why should there not be transparency for LPG as there is for all other fuels?

Re: Flogas - Can they charge what they want?

Hello, I'm new to this forum but I have been doing some digging around to check on LPG prices and here is my findings:- I am currently with BP, being ripped off to the tune of 43p/litre so I have checked out the others,

Calor - initial price of 31.15p/litre rising to 33.15 after 12 months, thereafter to 35p, £150 installation charge, £60 rental/year

Flogas - initial price of 31p/litre for 6 months, unwilling to give price after 6 months, no installation fee,

My local supplier Gaulds - 34.9p/litre +vat (5%) for 1 year, no installation charge, £100 free gas at start

Just had a message from BP to give them a call, I'll see if they can improve their price...

We should be able to change suppliers without changing tanks sometime this year when the legislation is enforced but the major suppliers are dragging their heels, might be June, more likely later in year.

Re: Flogas - Can they charge what they want?

I forgot to say that most of the suppliers are charging around £60 tank rental and most contracts are for 2 years.

    Crikey!!!!!! 43p? Absolutely ridiculous.

I'll be interested to hear your findings pitcaple. I'm sure we'll all be doing the same exercise at some point and your findings will help to save some time. Thanks.

Oh and by the way ........ a big WELCOME to the forum.

Re: Flogas - Can they charge what they want?

Ok, just off the phone to BP, as soon as they heard I was not happy (via an email I sent them yesterday) the price immediately dropped to 38.5p/litre, now they have offered a new contract for 2 years, 31.95p/litre for first 6 months then changing to a "variable rate" whatever that means.

Not sure what the best deal is from all my inquiries but what I have learned is shop around and make some noise.

Re: Flogas - Can they charge what they want?

I rang flogas this week as we had just had a delivery and I asked them how much per litre they are charging. They would not say until I gave them my account number. I said "Why do you need my account number" All I can assume through that is different people pay different amounts.

So for what it is worth they are charging 40.45p per litre to me I would be interested to hear from any other flogas customers as to how much per litre they are being charged

I dislike Flogas with a passion

Re: Flogas - Can they charge what they want?

    Hi,

Just found this Forum and I'm also fed up with LPG prices. I'm with Shell Gas and get the same letters regularly upping the price. Last delivery on 11th Feb was at 37ppl but have 2 letters since then upping it 2p each time so I must be on 41ppl now. I think it's time to consult with my neighbours again. Last time we contacted Shell as a group - there are 4 of us all with Shell (about 3 years ago) they agreed to drop the price to 30ppl but it's continued upward ever since!

Re: Flogas - Can they charge what they want?

As an update, I am now completely free of FloGas and recommend others, where possible, to do the same.

I'm now on oil, have upgraded my boiler and am enjoying the benefits of being able to shop around whenever I need a refill. No contracts, no dreaded 'unfortunately your gas price has gone through the roof' letters and peace of mind that I now have a real choice on who I allow to supply me fuel. Additionally, I now have a wireless guage system that allows me to monitor the useage......I haven't felt this happy since I upgraded from a cesspit to a Bio-Digester but that's a whole different story!

    Good luck folks.

Re: Flogas - Can they charge what they want?

We should form a "We hate Flogas Club"!! We were stuck with Flogas for 3 year when we bought our current house. When we first moved in a representative turned up and asked us to sign an "Account Opening Form" which turned out to be a three year contract. We never even had any gas at the price he quoted - the price went up immediately. When I rang to question this I was told I was under contract and would have to live with it. In the last 12 months we have had a further three price increases. I accept that LPG prices have increased but not to the extent that Flogas have. The increase in profits confirms this. Fortunately we reached the end of our contract in January. We contacted a local company called innergy LPG (www.innergylpg.co.uk). They said they don't usually take on domestic supply but we were were near to their depot so they make an exception. We now pay 32.5p per litre which was guaranteed for six months. This was particularly useful as we have just received a letter from Flogas telling us they are putting their prices up again, by 3p per litre, even though we are no longer their customer. When we contacted innergy to see if they were putting their prices up they said they didn't see a need to do so in the short term. When I explained I had received a letter from Flogas, they replied "You were a Flogas customer for three years - why does this surprise you?"

I can't believe this industry is not regulated. Flogas' prices are abusing their position, but it is their attitude that really stinks. The sooner the Competition Commission makes its ruling the quicker their victims (sorry customers) will be able to bid farewell.

Re: Flogas - Can they charge what they want?

I've only just found this forum and thank God I did. I'm currently with Calor, and my wife told me that she had heard of a company called Flo gas so I thought I'd check them out, which brings us to this forum. I sort of inherited Calor LPG when I bought my house 15 years ago and can honestly say that I've always enjoyed a very good level of customer relations with them. Yes I have had over the years the usual letters stating that prices would have to go up (usually just before winters heavier useage) and one recently going on about the world market etc, putting the price up another 3.5p to 40.50p per litre (inc VAT) with a guarantee that there would be no further increases until October at the earliest, so I thought it was time to perhaps shop around. This forum, apart from steering me well away from Flo gas and their apparently arrogant and and uncaring attitudes, has now informed me of the moves to change the regulations regarding the ownership and use of the tank. I put this to the person taking my call at Calor asking if another supplier could use my current tank to supply me with their fuel. I was told that she personally was aware of the issue which was still with the commission and that the general understanding was that it wouldn't be resolved any time soon. At present the cost of removing Calors tank is in excess of £200. In the mean time she would speak to a supervisor with a view to obtaining a discount on the price I currently pay. Given that most company's prices are probably much the same at present, the upheaval and time it would take to re-coup the £200 does tend to put me off. (Probably designed to do just that) By the way I don't wish to portray the above calor employee as a 'spokesperson' for either the company or the industry in general but obviously they themselves must be keeping a keen eye on developments in this area. Now thanks to this forum I will be doing exactly the same.

Re: Flogas - Can they charge what they want?

Flogas: June 2008. I've just been charged 43ppl + 9ppl surcharge for my 1200 litre tank. I used 7700 litres this last year June-June 2008. I am looking to change. Have had a survey and Calor quote 36.9ppl for one year then 40odd ppl but want 150 to install. 2 year tie-in. But I need Flogas pipe removed at my cost to fit theirs. So add another 5-600. Cos Flogas own my underground pipe and the surface tank. Still cheaper than Flogas after a year. But then i'll have to pay another 600 no doubt to remove Calor's pipe if i wish to change again. Please submit your offered deals so that we can all compare. Prices vary wildly and we need to know what is in the market. I'm being taken for 4+K a year. I've looked into owning my own tank which is 1200 to fit, but then I find no one will fill it, or if they do , not at a viable rate. Any one played this game before me? I would love to know more.

    As at June 2008 I pay 43ppl + 9ppl surcharge (and 12.38 a day tank rent) and use 7700 litres a year.
