    Re: VW BORA OR PASSAT?

Hi, I have owned a Bora SE TDI (100) since new 3 1/2 years ago. Now covered 41K miles. Been to Spain & South France. At a steady 80 mph mpg is 55, 50 if air con on. So just sips diesel. Excellent economy. Just replaced all tyres so also good. Mine is set to long life servicing, which advises when due, up to 20K intervals,so depending on how you drive it dictates frequency of servicing. Now advising 1k miles to 2nd service so cost saving. Seats are firm but very comfortable even if you are driving all day. Good size boot, rear seat legroom not great, but now children left home, its not important. Back seat folds down/ splits so useful for long loads. Engine has only been topped up with 1 litre of oil between services. Only warranty work has been to have the boot hinges replaced which had become stiff to open boot. All cabin controls fall easily to hand. Excellent sound from stereo, plenty of speakers around cockpit. Good build quality. Insurance is also cheap Group 6 or 7. I paid about £220 I think

We also tried a Passat which again ticked all the boxes, but decided it was too big just for the 2 of us and it would not fit in the garage!

    Hope this helps.

    Re: VW BORA OR PASSAT?

    Cheers for the info Adrian!

the legroom in the back may prove to be an issue, as i like to sit far back and relax whilst driving and i dont think i can cope being kicked each time anyone moves around in the back seat! ive had a look at a few bora's and the legroom in the back is an issue, although sometimes i think im never going to be sat in the back so whats the problem! lol

i prefer the bora's design to the passat, although ive not had a look at any passat's just yet, anyone out there own a passat?

    Re: VW BORA OR PASSAT?

Hi --- Have got to admit to my love of Honda --- I have a Prelude 2.2 Vtec 5th gen .... I just love it never had problems, the engine is renowned for it's "bulletproof" performance and reliability. Just wish Honda had carried on making them, I would have a new one in a flash. !!!!

I have had various Honda's over the years Civic, Accord aerodeck and models 2nd, 3rd and current 5th gen Prelude, in all the years never a problem, as long as you service correctly they just keep on running.

    Re: VW BORA OR PASSAT?

Ive had mine for 2years now, only kept it due to low maintenance and good mileage, fancy a change now!

so heres the situation: im 22, male, with 9 points, (3 due off in may next year & 3 off in sept 2008)

My budgets around£4000 for a car with around £1500 for insurance, although if i fall in love with a car im sure ile push up the £4000 budget!

    Any suggestions?
